Building Africa’s integrated energy future: how Tetracore Energy Group is expanding access to reliable and sustainable energy

Across Nigeria and the wider African region, Tetracore Energy Group is building an integrated gas and power platform designed to expand reliable electricity access, strengthen industrial capacity and advance long-term energy security through large-scale infrastructure, cross-border supply networks and cleaner fuel solutions, writes Olakunle Williams

Energy is the engine of economic progress and a catalyst that accelerates industrialisation, transforms communities, and unlocks Africa’s future. Across Nigeria and the broader African continent, the need for reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy has never been more urgent.

When we founded Tetracore Energy Group in 2022, our vision was clear: to build a company capable of addressing Africa’s most pressing energy challenges through practical, scalable, and sustainable solutions. Across Nigeria and the wider African continent, reliable energy remains one of the most important drivers of economic growth, industrialisation, and improved quality of life. From the outset, we positioned Tetracore to operate across multiple segments of the energy value chain, with the goal of delivering clean, cost-effective, and sustainable energy for households, industries, and businesses.

Today, I am proud to say that Tetracore Energy Group has grown into a key force shaping Nigeria’s evolving energy sector, with an expanding footprint across the region. Our operations now span natural gas distribution, gas-to-power development, compressed and liquefied natural gas solutions (CNG and LNG), and power infrastructure. Through these initiatives, we have built a gas supply portfolio exceeding 120MMscfd and a power portfolio exceeding 100MW, a milestone that reinforces our position as an enabler of gas utilisation and energy security in Nigeria.

A cornerstone of our infrastructure portfolio is the 40MMscfd City Gate natural gas facility in Utesi, Edo State. This state-of-the-art facility supplies uninterrupted gas to an industrial park that houses more than 18 industries, ranging from aluminium and steel manufacturing to glass, ceramics, tiles, and wood processing companies. Since commissioning the facility, it has operated with zero downtime, demonstrating our commitment to reliability and operational excellence. For us, this project represents more than infrastructure; it represents the role energy plays in unlocking industrial productivity and economic opportunity.

Our journey continued with a significant expansion of our gas infrastructure footprint in 2024 through the commissioning of a 3.1MMscfd Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Mother Station in Atakobo, Ogun State. Strategically located along Nigeria’s Western–Southern industrial corridor, the facility supports growing demand for cleaner and more efficient fuel alternatives. Recognising the rapid adoption of gas solutions in transportation and industry, we expanded the facility’s capacity to 6.2MMscfd in 2025, with a further scale-up to 7.6MMscfd at the beginning of 2026.

Our commitment is to deliver sustainable and cost-efficient energy access through innovative AutoGas solutions. This is championed by the deployment of our Mobile Auto Refuelling Unit (MARU) across key locations to guarantee scalable and reliable energy logistics. In Ogun State, our flagship MARU unit of 30,000 SCMD powers industrial fleets and individual CNG customers at Atakabo and 60,000 SCMD at our Ogere location. At the Dangote facility at Ibese, our 88,800SCMD Mobile Auto Refuelling Units power one of Africa’s largest industrial logistics networks. Our strategic facility in Benin City further extends our regional reach to support cross-border transport and logistics operations.

To further strengthen our position in the AutoCNG ecosystem, we partnered with one of Africa’s largest industrial players, Dangote Group, to supply up to 40,000 SCM of gas daily to support the company’s expanding fleet of CNG-powered trucks. Partnerships like this demonstrate how collaboration across industries can accelerate Nigeria’s transition toward cleaner, more efficient energy systems.

Beyond transportation and distribution, we are also investing in infrastructure that will deepen Nigeria’s industrial base. In Atakobo, Ogun State, we are developing a 10MMscf/d LNG facility designed to serve industries and commercial users that are currently beyond the reach of pipeline networks. At the same time, we are leveraging our gas portfolio to develop an integrated ammonia-urea fertiliser complex with a capacity of 1,200 tonnes per day, alongside a 2,500 barrels per day Gas-to-Liquids (GTL) facility. These projects are designed to support domestic manufacturing, strengthen supply chains, and enhance energy accessibility across Nigeria and Africa.

With investments exceeding $80 million in West African Gas infrastructure, Tetracore continues to reinforce its dedication to developing a sustainable, reliable, and integrated energy platform.

Sustainable electricity supply is one of the fundamental pillars of industrialisation across Africa. Tetracore is committed to addressing this challenge through decentralised and cleaner power solutions. Our portfolio includes both on-grid and off-grid projects ranging from gas-to-power plants to renewable energy implemented through embedded, captive, and bilateral frameworks.

We have established partnerships with several major electricity distribution companies across Nigeria, including Eko Electricity Distribution Company, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, Kaduna Electric, Kano Electricity Distribution Company, and Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, to deliver over 200MW of power supply.

Additionally, we are developing the 100MW Atakobo IPP Gas-to-Power project in Ogun State, one of Tetracore’s flagship power developments and a central pillar of our generation portfolio, demonstrating our firm commitment to expanding reliable, utility-scale electricity supply across Nigeria.

Recognising the growing importance of mineral resources to Nigeria’s industrial future, we are also expanding into the critical minerals sector. In partnership with the Nasarawa State Investment and Development Agency, we are exploring opportunities in rare earth minerals, with project activities expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2026.

While Nigeria serves as our anchor market, our vision is regional. We have extended our footprint into other African markets to help unlock cross-border energy opportunities. One of the key steps in this direction was obtaining a Shipper’s License from the West African Gas Pipeline Company WAGP, which enables us to transport natural gas from Nigeria to Ghana and gradually expand supply across West Africa.

In Ghana, we have commissioned the country’s first natural gas virtual pipeline network, consisting of a 5MMscfd CNG Mother Station, Pressure Reducing Station PRMS and specialised delivery trucks operating within the Tema industrial area.

Our regional portfolio also extends to Central Africa, where we have executed an LNG Infrastructure Development Agreement with the Government of Equatorial Guinea to supply gas to a 38MW power plant and a one-million-ton-per-year cement plant.

Further south, we have been prequalified to develop a 50MW Solar PV project in Zambia, reinforcing our commitment to Africa’s renewable energy transition.

Developing the next generation of energy leaders remains a key priority for us. In 2023, we launched our inaugural Graduate Management Training (GMT) programme, followed by the 2026 cohort, designed to equip young professionals with the technical skills, business acumen, and leadership capabilities needed to drive innovation and shape the future of Africa’s energy sector.

In 2025, Tetracore was certified as a Great Place to Work, an achievement that reflects the culture we are building, rooted in collaboration, inclusion, and purpose. Our people remain the driving force behind our success.

As we look ahead, our focus remains unchanged: to build infrastructure that powers industries, strengthens economies, and improves lives.

Africa’s energy future will require bold thinking, partnerships, and sustained investment. At Tetracore Energy Group, we are proud to be part of that journey.
