Women hit by Indonesia disasters to receive 5,000 hygiene kits

KuCoin is supporting a relief effort with the Global CSR Foundation and the American Medical Women’s Association to deliver menstrual health supplies, medicine and food to communities in Aceh and Medan

Women in disaster-hit parts of Sumatra are to receive 5,000 menstrual hygiene kits as part of a humanitarian relief effort focused on health, dignity and recovery.

KuCoin is supporting the initiative with the Global CSR Foundation and the American Medical Women’s Association, working with Yayasan Srikandi Merah Putih on the A Matter of Dignity – Sumatra Relief Initiative.

The programme will deliver menstrual hygiene kits alongside essential medicines and fresh food to communities affected by recent disasters and prolonged recovery challenges in Aceh and Medan.

Distribution began last month.

The project is aimed at a basic need that is often overlooked during disaster response, with women’s health supplies included as part of wider emergency and recovery support.

Aurelly Syifalia Widihartanto, co-founder of Yayasan Srikandi Merah Putih, said: “This initiative is about responding to crisis in a way that protects both life and dignity.

“Women are often the most affected during disasters, yet their basic health needs are the first to be overlooked. Our goal is to ensure care reaches communities not only quickly, but respectfully and responsibly.”

The initiative builds on work between AMWA’s global health lead Dr Padmini Murthy and the Global CSR Foundation, founded by Jing Zhao Cesarone.

It is being expanded into Indonesia through Yayasan Srikandi Merah Putih, with leadership support from vice-president Stefanny Florina.

The Menstrual Equity Project was conceptualised by Dr Murthy and Cesarone and has previously been implemented in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, the Republic of Suriname, and in satellite clinics affiliated with St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Organisers said that model is now being adapted for Indonesia.

KuCoin is supporting the procurement and shipment of the hygiene kits.

Sylvie Dong, KuCoin’s CSR director and global human resources director, said: “Corporate responsibility means showing up in practical ways when communities are affected by disaster.

“KuCoin will continue to support CSR initiatives that address real needs and deliver meaningful help on the ground.”

Maha Medicare will lead on-the-ground distribution of medicine, food and hygiene kits in Aceh and Medan.

The organisation has been assisting flood-affected communities in Medan since December.

The initiative has also received regional and national support, including from H. Teuku Badruddin Syah, Sultan of Aceh.

The organisers said national-level support is shown through the involvement of Agustina Hastarini, spouse of the Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises of Indonesia, and La Ode Ikrar Hastomi, representing Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry.

Indonesian public figures including Baim Wong, Rianti Cartwright, Dame Aning, Nadya Shakira, Ririn Dwi Ariyanti and Metta Permadi have also joined the initiative to help raise awareness of women’s health and dignity in disaster response.

The relief effort was formally presented at a press dinner called A Matter of Dignity, held on February 6, 2026, at Sushi Maru Hang Tuah in Jakarta.

The event brought together foundation leaders, government representatives, medical experts, business executives, public figures and senior media.

Post-distribution documentation, verified impact reports and visual materials from Aceh and Medan are expected to be made available to media after deployment.
