Record-breaking sales in August have reinforced Kia America’s position as one of the fastest-growing mainstream carmakers in the U.S market
The figure represents a 10.4 per cent increase on the same month last year and marks only the second time the brand has surpassed the 80,000-unit mark in a single month.
Year-to-date sales have risen 8.6 per cent to 570,641 units, with retail volumes through Kia’s dealer network up 10.3 per cent, according to figures published this week.
Eric Watson, vice-president of sales operations at Kia America, said: “Kia delivered another sales milestone by recording more than 83,000 sales in a single month – our best-ever monthly sales result – keeping us firmly on track to achieve our third consecutive annual sales record and our highest ever market share.
“Sales of Kia’s sedans, SUVs and electrified models are generating double-digit growth, and coupled with Kia’s 10 per cent increase in retail sales, these are clear indicators of the strength of the Kia brand and how our diverse product offerings continue to meet customer needs.”
The August record was supported by strong growth in Kia’s electric range. The EV9 achieved sales of 2,679 units, up 54 per cent on July. The EV6 rose 39 per cent month-on-month to 1,796 units, while the Niro EV climbed 57 per cent to 3,124 units.
Together, the three models extended Kia’s run of four consecutive months of EV sales growth.
Other models also posted double-digit gains compared with last year. The Carnival MPV rose 29 per cent to 6,522 units, the Telluride SUV gained 19 per cent to 12,177, the Sportage increased 19 per cent to 18,023, and the K5 sedan climbed 13 per cent to 6,847.
