Zaha Hadid Architects, the design firm behind some of the world’s most iconic buildings, has been appointed to work on North America’s largest superyacht marina
The London-based company will design a luxury yacht club, nightclub and casino at Habacoa, the 500-acre, purpose-built resort currently under development in the Bahamas.
According to Habacoa, the partnership will “truly redefine super-yachting and luxury living” and create an “upscale, sophisticated lifestyle”.
The 25,000 square-metre yacht club will boast a members’ restaurant and bar, open-air terraces, wrap-around gardens, and a hub for curated events and programmes.
It will also feature a unique roof that “evokes the fluid movement of waves and direct cooling sea breezes throughout its interiors”, Habacoa claims.
The nightclub and casino, meanwhile, will comprise a private 5,000-square-foot gaming floor and live events.
Artist’s impressions of the buildings, which will integrate sustainable technologies and use environmentally responsible materials in their construction, were released for the first time last week.
Ra’anan Ben-Zur, Habacoa’s CEO, said: “These new details allow us to share more about the development in a yet-to-be-seen perspective.
“This project will truly redefine super-yachting and luxury living, creating an upscale, sophisticated lifestyle.”
When it opens in early 2027, Habacoa will accommodate up to 441 regular-sized boats or 150 yachts measuring up to 220 metres.
Surrounded by 20,000 acres of Abaco National Park in the Bahamas, boat owners will benefit from at-berth fuelling, US-standard portable water, and concierge service.
The resort itself will be home to a variety of restaurants, shops, fitness centres, live entertainment venues, and children’s play areas.
A luxury hotel and branded residences with exclusive access to a private beach and cabanas are also on offer.
Elsewhere, 35 luxury condominiums, ranging from 65 to 465 square metres, and nearly 80 off-plan waterfront plots, will be available for purchase.
Juan Ignacio Aranguren of Zaha Hadid Architects, the firm which designed China’s Guangzhou Opera House, the 2012 Olympics London Aquatics Centre, and Beijing Daxing International Airport, among others, said: “Respecting the natural beauty and integrity of South Abaco, we envisioned our design through a sustainable lens.
“This project has been deeply influenced by meticulous attention to environmental considerations.”
