Vipingo Ridge: A place like no other
John E. Kaye

Golf, wildlife, beaches and sunshine adventures make Kenya’s Vipingo Ridge the most extraordinary of destinations
On a hillside overlooking the Indian Ocean lies a gated community in which people from all over the world live, work and play amid a dramatic coastal landscape. Dreamt up in the early 2000s, the development was founded on the philosophies of a luxury lifestyle and today, delivers the best in sunshine living.

A place to go on vacation, hold conferences or build a legacy home, Vipingo Ridge offers 2,500 acres of gardens and wild terrain, where residents and guests can stretch out and enjoy the views.
With golf at the heart of the destination, the award-winning 18-hole championship course takes centre stage and, as the only PGA-accredited course in Africa, is the official venue for the Ladies European Tour. Despite the tropical climes, a round up here is much cooler than you might think. Combined with a meandering system of lakes and streams, the Kaskazi and Kusi breezes are perfectly refreshing and add to the challenge of the game. And because Vipingo Ridge is now a wildlife sanctuary (part of a programme in collaboration with the Kenya Wildlife Service to grant refuge to vulnerable animals) you can tee off as giraffe wander past and zebra, impala and oryx graze nearby.
Much more than golf
Long established as one of Kenya’s most elegant addresses and vacation haunts, there is far more to this destination than just golf. Here you can host events with an ocean backdrop – from weddings in the mango forest to business conventions at the conference centre – play tennis or ride ponies. There is rooftop yoga, a kids’ club, live music, a pop-up spa, bush hikes to the Chodari Dam and exhibitions of local art. The Clubhouse and Sundowner Sports Bar are abuzz with daily activity.

Down the hill at the water’s edge, you will find Vipingo Ridge’s Beach Club. A family-favourite due to its privacy and unspoilt nature on this popular stretch of coastline, it is a fantastic spot to spend a day snorkelling, kayaking and tucking into seafood. Paddleboards abound at the water sports centre and the beach volleyball court awaits. Get adventurous by exploring the rock pools or simply lie back on one of the “makuti” swing seats while your “Dawa” cocktail is served.
Amid the beauty of the Kenyan coast, your time at Vipingo Ridge is yours to enjoy as you wish. Whether on the fairways of champions at the PGA Baobab Course, setting sail on a traditional dhow, cycling nature trails, or indulging in fine dining, you are invited to come for a day and stay for a lifetime.
