Offering the chance to follow in the footsteps of a former First Lady, the grand estate of fashion icon Jackie Kennedy has hit the market
A piece of American history has recently been put on the property market through TTR Sotheby’s International Realty, attracting buyers looking to own a property with significant historical interest. The estate comprises a centrepiece house with two other buildings, and was once owned by Jackie Kennedy, the wife of the 35th President of the USA John Kennedy.
Jackie purchased the home following the assassination of her husband in 1963. In December, she moved out of the White House with her children hoping to find a sanctuary from the press. However, their attempts to find peace proved difficult after the home became a veritable tourist attraction, which lead to the family moving to New York City in September 1964.

As befits a property once owned by such an iconic and historic family, the estate exudes a presidential gravitas. The signature building, 3017 N Street NW, is a Federal-style home built in the 18th century, with shuttered windows and a column porch, fitting in neatly to the historical vernacular of the Georgetown area. The home is constructed using red brick, lending a sense of class and neatness to the estate.
“The third floor is home to a lofted observation suite”
Seamlessly connected to the main building is a modernist brick and concrete home, 3009 N St NW was built in 1950 and the two buildings share a tunnel, completing the estate and allowing access to an underground garage. A third building is also connected – 3003 N St NW, another red brick building constructed in 1880.
The interiors of the property have been restored to meet modern standards, while keeping the home’s vintage appeal. The main building includes a grand main reception hall, original fireplace surrounds and elegant mouldings. Five bedrooms occupy the first and second floors, including a primary suite with parquet flooring, a private balcony overlooking the rear gardens, and a spa-quality bath. All other bathrooms include en-suite baths, and the third floor is home to a lofted observation suite.

3009 N St NW is home to four bedrooms, three full bathrooms and three half baths. A stunning Italianate entertaining room occupies the ground floor. Meanwhile, 3003 N St NW features five bedrooms, three full baths and one half bath, as well as oak herringbone flooring and a gourmet kitchen.
The three homes show great attention to detail, balancing historical significance with modern convenience. Following in the footsteps of a true fashion icon, the new owners will no doubt enjoy a glamorous time at this estate.

The home is listed with Jonathan Taylor of TTR Sotheby’s International Realty for a guide price of $26.5m. To find out more visit sothebysrealty.com
