Motorhome manufacturer Carthago continues to push boundaries, while being driven by the same core values that make it such a firm favourite
Like many industries, motorhome manufacturing has seen a lot of changes in the last 30 years. Production techniques have been modernised and automated. Vehicles have become more luxurious and better built while many producers have merged, or been bought by investment companies with shareholders to please.
German premium motorhome manufacturer Carthago has been at the forefront of design innovation, high-quality build and comfort since 1979. One thing that really makes the company stand out however is that they are still owned and managed by their founder, Karl-Heinz Schuler. It is his passion to build the very best leisure vehicles possible that drives all aspects of the business today.
Carthago produce a wide variety of motorhomes from low-profile vehicles to premium liner-class models. Available on a choice of chassis from leading manufacturers, Mercedes-Benz, Fiat and Iveco, every model shares the same unique Carthago DNA.
Lightness with strength
Carthago motorhome bodies are built using advanced aircraft construction technology. Where other motorhome producers use screw connections, Carthago utilise high-tech methods to ensure a high degree of stability. The main body is reinforced with frame members and special bonding techniques to ensure it is both light and structurally rigid. Features like these borrowed from the aircraft industry not only help reduce overall weight for improved fuel consumption and increase payload capability but also provide a clear advantage regarding safety.
A look into the future
Carthago have introduced a raft of new innovation and improvements for the 2025 range. They have continued their drive to reduce overall weight and launched some exciting new models. One of the most easily recognisable changes for the new season is the new front-end styling incorporating a new corporate style of grille with prominent “C” branding. Every new A-class motorhome now features the larger chrome “C” logo in the centre of the grille.
The popular c-tourer range has been diversified to create two distinctive model lines: C1-tourer and C2-tourer. Available as a low-profile or A-class model the C1-tourer is available on both the new improved Fiat Ducato chassis and the advanced Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis.
Introducing the SMART LINER class
The C2-tourer is an all-new A-class range available exclusively on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis with AL-KO low frame and a body width of just 2.17 metres. Not only does this help with manoeuvrability, specially around towns and villages but it also shaves off vital kilograms in the 3.5-tonne weight class. Thanks to the cleverly adapted furniture design, the interior of the C2-tourer feels very spacious. It’s thanks to this intelligent design Carthago felt obliged to give its new class of motorhome a new name, the “Smart Liner” class.
A new dawn for Carthago’s self-sufficiency champion
The jewel in the crown of Carthago’s premium liner-class motorhomes has been reimagined for this year’s range of models. The chic e-line new generation on Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis has a brand-new exterior for 2025 with a completely new front-end design and stylish new graphics.
This evolutionary design is instantly recognisable as a Carthago sharing similar design cues with other models, but the new chic e-line is also a look into the future with its new contemporary bold front-end styling and showcases a new design language for the Carthago brand.
The key characteristic is the hexagonal radiator grille, which has been modified to feature five striking triple crossbars. It’s impossible to miss the bold, new “C” branding in the centre, which replaces the previously more restrained brand insignia. To offer even greater independence for owners who like to go off-grid with increased battery capacity, the chic e-line new generation now comes with even more self-sufficiency as standard.
