European investors can now trade thousands of US stocks through Kraken

Crypto platform opens regulated share trading across the EEA, putting more than 7,000 US-listed stocks alongside crypto and tokenised equities

European investors can now trade more than 7,000 U.S-listed stocks through Kraken after the crypto platform launched regulated share dealing across the European Economic Area.

Eligible customers can buy traditional American shares alongside more than 600 crypto assets and over 700 xStocks – tokenised versions of U.S-listed equities backed one-to-one by underlying shares.

The launch means investors who want exposure to both conventional and digital assets can access them through the same Kraken account rather than using separate platforms.

Trading is available through Kraken Pro on desktop and mobile, as well as the Kraken app.

The service is being provided by Payward Europe Digital Solutions, Kraken’s European entity, which is authorised as a MiFID investment firm.

Kraken said U.S-listed stocks can be traded commission-free by eligible customers, although spreads, foreign exchange costs and other fees may apply.

Mark Greenberg, the firm’s chief commercial officer of Payward and head of Payward Services, said: “This launch eliminates the artificial divide between traditional and tokenized formats of the same asset. With U.S-listed stocks and xStocks available side-by-side in a single regulated account, customers can choose how they access the same underlying exposure – whether through traditional shares or tokenized representation – without moving capital or changing platforms.

“That’s what modern investing should look like: one asset class, multiple formats, fully integrated.”

xStocks can also be transferred to self-custody wallets, used in onchain applications and traded during hours when public markets are closed.

The company said the products have generated more than US$39 billion in total transaction volume since launch.

Kraken plans to expand the combined equities service into additional markets in the coming months.
