Elsewedy Electric – Powering progress

A range of global sustainability and ESG awards throughout 2023 have underscored Elsewedy Electric’s exceptional impact and global leadership in promoting renewable energy

In recognition of its outstanding achievements, Elsewedy Electric has been honoured with multiple prestigious international sustainability and ESG Awards in 2023, underscoring the company’s relentless commitment to excellence and sustainability on a global scale. These distinguished accolades include: ‘Best Integrated Energy & Infrastructure Solutions Provider – Africa 2023’, ‘Best Clean Energy Transformation Leader – Egypt 2023’, and ‘Outstanding Achievements in Corporate Governance & Stakeholders Protection in North Africa 2023’ from The European.

As a leading global provider of integrated energy, infrastructure, and digital solutions, Elsewedy Electric is devoted to delivering comprehensive and innovative solutions across five key business sectors: Wire; Cable & Accessories; Electrical Products; Engineering & Construction; Digital Solutions; and Infrastructure Investments.

Boasting a robust presence in 19 different countries and 31 production facilities across Africa and Asia, Elsewedy Electric has a significant global footprint, including in European markets. The company has collaborated with European-based energy giants to establish numerous mega infrastructure and green energy projects.

Renewable energy portfolio

In 2019, Elsewedy Electric acquired three operational wind farms and two hydroelectric energy assets in Greece. The company, through its four subsidiaries spanning different regions in Greece, namely, Kallisti Energiaki S.A., Aioliki Kylindrias S.A., Aioliki Aderes S.A., and Hydroelektriki Achaias S.A., has successfully secured a 100% renewable energy portfolio with a combined capacity of 64MW.

Notably, Elsewedy Electric played a pivotal role in the Benban Solar Project in Egypt, which is one of the world’s largest solar power plants. Teaming up with Électricite De France’s EDF Renewables, Elsewedy Electric developed, financed, built, owned, and operated two solar PV power plants with a total capacity of 130MW, providing sustainable energy to over 140,000 households and preventing more than 122,000 tonnes of CO2-equivalent emissions annually.

The awards highlighted opposite are part of this magazine’s ‘Sustainability & ESG Awards 2023’ and are just some of the many that Elsewedy Electric has garnered over the years. October Dry Port (ODP), established in partnership with DB SHENKER, earned the prestigious ‘IJGlobal Transport Deal’ award 2021 in the MENA region. This is the first PPP project that applies the ESG model of sustainability. Moreover, Elsewedy Electric has been honoured with ECOVADIS certificate – SILVER Rating for sustainability management, which positioned the group among the top 25% in industry performance.

All these endeavours stem from Elsewedy Electric’s dedication to sustainable practices that prioritise the planet and its resources. Consequently, all companies within the group implement its rigorous ESG policies, focusing on a positive environmental impact, social equality, and strong governance, and ultimately, shaping a brighter and more sustainable future.
