Uzbek carrier plans twice-weekly service from March using single-class Airbus A321neo aircraft
Uzbekistan’s Centrum Air is to begin its first regular route to Europe with the launch of flights between Tashkent and Frankfurt.
The airline plans to operate the service twice per week from 30 March, with departures on Mondays and Fridays.
Centrum Air described the move as a key step in the expansion of its international route network and a milestone in the company’s development.
The Frankfurt route will reportedly be served by Airbus A321neo aircraft configured with 221 seats in a single economy cabin.
The move comes as other airlines seek to expand into long-haul markets from Europe.
Wizz Air has this week applied to the US Department of Transportation for permission to operate flights between the UK and US, initially for charter services, with the option to add scheduled routes in future under the US–UK Open Skies Agreement.
The company said that obtaining regulatory approval for UK–US services would result in “increased travel choices, greater service options and enhanced competition”, benefiting passengers in both countries.
Wizz Air’s current UK fleet comprises 21 Airbus A321 aircraft, including three A321XLRs capable of operating transatlantic routes.
