Snickers creates ‘world’s first digital chocolate bar’ for misbehaving AI

Virtual bar is designed to be ‘fed’ to hangry chatbots when they start inventing facts, agreeing with bad ideas or otherwise producing poor responses

Snickers has created what it claims is the world’s first digital chocolate bar designed specifically to be “fed” to artificial intelligence when it starts behaving badly.

From today, frustrated users can copy and paste a code, or ‘digital bar’, into a chatbot conversation when it makes up information or produces incorrect answers.

The pasted code links to a Snickers webpage that tells the AI to review its previous answer and respond again.

Its new answer ends with the line: “AI isn’t itself when it’s hungry” – a play on Snickers’ long-running You’re Not You When You’re Hungry slogan, used in campaigns featuring stars including Mr T.

Ashley Gill, from Snicker’s parent company, Mars, said: “SNICKERS has long been the remedy for out-of-character moments. As generative AI becomes part of everyday life, we’re playfully reinventing the way SNICKERS connects with our fans in today’s culture.”

She added: “Whether it’s a person losing their cool or an AI chatbot consistently agreeing with you, the truth hasn’t changed: when you’re not acting like yourself, we believe you maybe just need a SNICKERS.”
