Matthew Jukes
Wine & Fine Drinks Correspondent
The late, great Matthew Jukes was one of the United Kingdom’s most widely read wine writers, with forty years of experience across retail, buying, broadcasting and journalism. A former buyer for Bibendum Restaurant and long-standing columnist for the Daily Mail’s Weekend Magazine and MoneyWeek, he published fourteen books and multiple annual reports, including his Burgundy, Bordeaux, Piemonte and 100 Best Australian Wines reports.
An internationally recognised authority on Australian wine, he co-founded The Great Australian Red competition and has hosted showcase tastings in London, New York, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Paris, Melbourne and Sydney. Matthew was also the founder of One Day Wine School and the creator of Jukes Cordialities, an award-winning alcohol-free drinks range sold globally.
As Wine & Fine Drinks Correspondent for The European, he covered global wine markets, collectors’ trends, fine drinking culture and the business of wine, bringing commercial insight and tasting authority to the magazine’s coverage of luxury, trade and international markets.
Matthew sadly passed away in August 2026. In recognition of his life and achievements, the flag at the South Australian High Commission in London was flown at half-mast in his honour.
