Part of the UN’s Global Compact since 2020, CKPower is a regional leader, generating renewable electricity for a sustainable future

Thailand-based CK Power PLC (CKPower) ranks among Southeast Asia’s largest producers of renewable electricity, and has one of the lowest carbon footprints in the region. It has initiated multiple greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction projects, and also aims to have 95% of its total generating capacity based on renewables by 2024.

CKPower is pursuing three main strategies to achieve its ESG and sustainability goals, which it calls its “C-K-P” programme: Environmental (C – Clean Electricity), Social (K – Kind Neighbour), and Economic & Governance (P – Partnership for Life). It has committed to a range of five-year targets that it aims to fulfil by 2026, which it hopes will amplify the positive impact of its activities on all stakeholders and across the entire value chain.

CKPower has been recognised with multiple awards attesting to the commitment of the group to its goals. In 2022, CKPower was honoured by the The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) Awards 2022 in the category of “Rising Star” for Sustainability Excellence, as well as being selected for the ESG Emerging List and the Sustainability Disclosure

Recognition award for outstanding sustainability disclosure by the Thaipat Institute. Additionally, for the past five years, CKPower has received an “Excellent” rating in corporate governance assessments by the Thai Institute of Directors (IOD). The accolades reflect CKPower’s capacity to achieve a delicate balance between its business operations, which support the economic development of the region, and environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and corporate governance.

To extend its positive impacts beyond national borders, CKPower has also been a part of the United Nations Global Compact since 2020 and has played a significant role in advocating its 10 principles concerning human rights, labour, environment, and good governance.

“CKPower is one of Southeast Asia’s largest producers of renewables-based electricity, and we’re fully committed to combating climate change with our goal to achieve net zero GHG emissions by 2050,” says, Thanawat Trivisvavet, Managing Director of CK Power PLC.

Unified approach

To achieve its ESG goals, CKPower also encourages employee participation at every level of the organisation. This includes creating opportunities for employees to contribute their knowledge and creativity in developing projects and innovation to advance energy conservation and reduce GHG emissions. As a result of these efforts, CKPower won the Asian Power Awards in 2022 for the third consecutive year and was certified as a climate action leading organisation in GHG management.

Empowering the next generation

With regard to social and community care, CKPower has instilled in its staff a culture of “giving back” and its staff participate in multiple company initiatives. CKPower aims to create sustainable value for society through its “Hinghoi” Project, which aims to bring electrification, as well as a better quality of life to communities in both Thailand and Laos. The programme has been fulfilling its mission for seven consecutive years.

CKPower is also active in the community when it comes to education, with volunteers heading out to schools across the region to enlighten students and teachers alike on the importance of energy saving, renewable energy, and efficient usage of appliances.

In 2022, the company was honoured at the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards for its exceptional social empowerment efforts and as an exemplary organisation in promoting sustainability.

“Our teams in the CKPower Group are united by a shared goal of not just generating power, but improving society’s quality of life and enabling a future free of greenhouse gas emissions. Our journey towards net-zero GHG emissions is a challenging one, but one that we are resolved to accomplish,” concludes Trivisvavet.
