Honorable Lujaina Mohsin Haider Darwish is one of the principal shareholders of Mohsin Haider Darwish LLC, a major business house in the Sultanate of Oman. She was one of two women elected to the country’s consultative council, Majlis A’ Shuraa, and twice elected to this honorable position for the Wilayat of Muscat. She has also been a member of State Council by Royal Decree since November 2015.
Honorable Lujaina is a leading light for Omani women in power, blazing a trail and helping to inspire, uplift and empower aspiring female entrepreneurs and corporate leaders alike. She continues to assert her influence across the social, cultural and business landscape, holding important positions such as Chairperson of Oman-China Friendship Association, Omani-Italian Friendship Association and a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Women Forum. She is an active participant at many international forums, working on behalf of women and children globally, especially in the Arab world.
Honorable Lujaina’s talent has been honoured by various organisations. AMWAL Magazine of France conducted a survey in 2005 of leading GCC women, whereby Honorable Lujaina was recognised among 18 women leading the Gulf’s business landscape. She was also honoured by the Ministry of Social Development as one of the 27 “Leading Women in Oman” out of 210 nominees.
The “Young Entrepreneur of the Year” in 2001 and the “Flame of Excellence” in 2002 are among other notable awards. In 2005 she was nominated as “Young Global Leader” from 250 figures around the world by the World Economic Forum.
Over the years she has received many prestigious awards, including from the Omani Centre for Investment Promotion & Export Development (OCIPED). She has also featured in the Forbes Middle East’s annual lists for many years, including:
- 13th of the “50 Most Powerful Businesswomen in the Arab World” in 2006.
- 21st of the “50 Most Powerful Businesswomen in the Arab World in 2008.
- 18th “Most Influential Arab Women from Government and Family Businesses” in 2013.
- 24th of the “200 most Powerful Women in Family Business” in 2014.
- Featured on the Forbes Middle East list of the “100 Most Powerful Arab Businesswomen” in 2016 and 2017.

Always achieving excellence
Honorable Lujaina has proudly represented Omani women from the GCC at various major summits in Muscat, Geneva, Dubai and Sweden. In 2018, she addressed the WTO’s Public Forum in Geneva, her speech “Leadership Beyond the Veil” explored the significance of Omani female leaders. She also addressed the opening plenary as a keynote speaker for the IRU World Congress 2018 in Muscat.
In 2018, Honorable Lujaina added the “Middle East Women Leader Award” from the World HRD Congress and a place in Al Maraa Excellence’s “Hall of Fame” to her list of achievements. Following this, in 2019 she won “The Top Global Retail Minds Award 2019”, “Business Women Leader Excellence Award” by ME Excellence Awards and “Oman Women of the Year 2019” for inspirational women.
In 2019, Honorable Lujaina was recognised for “Achievement in Business” by London Arabia Organisation. She was joint winner for “Business Leader of the Year 2019” at the Business Brilliance Awards, and a finalist at Middle East Economic Digest (MEED) for “Female Leader of the Year 2019”.
Honorable Lujaina’s life is just as dynamic beyond the world of business. She is a devoted mother to three lovely girls and has an extremely supportive husband and family. Her exceptional office team enable her to successfully balance her professional and personal life. She is a passionate philanthropist. Her hobbies include reading, travelling and cooking, and she enjoys nothing more than experimenting with new recipes.
Among Honorable Lujaina’s many ambitions are plans to form a unique platform for aspiring female Omani entrepreneurs. Through an empowered committee, this initiative will create business opportunities and develop leadership skills. Mentoring and encouraging young Omani women to accomplish their dreams of becoming successful entrepreneurs is something that deeply inspires Honorable Lujaina.
