OneBanks, the shared branch banking venture, has appointed Andy Willmot, Chief Digital Architect at Lloyds Banking Group, as its first Chief Technology Officer

Willmot will be responsible for developing and implementing technology strategy for OneBanks as it grows, rolling out more kiosks in high street locations which can be used to access accounts from all UK banks.

Willmot brings over 25 years’ financial technology experience to OneBanks. He joins from Lloyds Banking Group, where he was responsible for developing the architecture and engineering of the Group’s mobile and web digital platforms. Prior to Lloyds, he was a digital capability leader at KPMG. During a career which coincided with a revolution in banking technology, he has also held positions consulting and advising banks and other business on digital transformation and data analytics.

Duncan Cockburn, founder and CEO of OneBanks said, “The appointment of our first CTO augments our growing team as we go live with our first full scale pilot. Andy’s expertise and knowledge of consumer facing IT will help bring a much more user-friendly experience to our customers at our state-of-the art shared banking kiosks.”

Andy Willmot, incoming CTO of OneBanks, added, “I’m excited by the OneBanks vision, which promises to address the needs of ordinary banking customers and communities as well as the banks that serve them with an affordable way of providing the physical interaction customers value. OneBanks is solving a key problem we’ve had in banking for some time – costly bank branches – with an approach is based on deploying the latest technology. OneBanks is maximising Open Banking for the benefit of all customers – truly delivering on the promise of financial inclusion for all.”

OneBanks successfully launched a pilot kiosk in the town of Denny, Scotland in December 2020, a town which has had no local bank branch for two years.
