Boris Johnson has been elected as the new leader of the Conservative party by fellow party members, and will take office as the Prime Minister of the UK on Wednesday 24th July.

The decision was announced today in London at the Queen Elizabeth II centre.

Johnson comfortably won the vote, beating rival Jeremy Hunt at 92, 153 votes to Hunt’s 46,656.

Speaking following the announcement he thanked his predecessor Theresa May and said: “We are going to energise the country.”
